Fordham Sports Law Forum

What We Do

The Fordham Sports Law Forum was created in 1996 and is a student run organization consisting of approximately 100 members.

There are three primary facets to the Forum: 1) the annual sports law symposium, 2) its traveling competition teams, and 3) its own basketball negotiation competition.

The Fordham Sports Law Symposium is the organization’s longest running event, this being its 17th year at the school.  Over the years, the Symposium has attracted some of the biggest names in the sports law industry.  Notable panelists include Michael Weiner, Executive Director of the MLB Players Association; Neil Pilson, former head of CBS Sports; and David Feher, outside counsel to the NFL Players Association.  Prominent individuals who have been selected to give the keynote address include Howie Roseman, General Manager of the Philadelphia Eagles, Tim Brosnan, Executive Vice President of Major League Baseball, and John Mara, President and CEO of the New York Giants.

The Forum sends teams to various sports law competitions around the country.  Fordham has represented at: the Tulane National Baseball Arbitration Competition in New Orleans, the National Sports Law Negotiation Competition at Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, and the SABR Diamond Dollars Competition at New York University.

This year, the Forum will hold its own competition, the inaugural Fordham National Basketball Negotiation Competition, which will take place in March 2013.  Law schools from across the country are invited and will be judged by practicing sports law attorneys from within the professional basketball realm.
