Technology Innovation Law and PracticeThis seminar type course is intended to provide students with an overview understanding of the technical, business and legal factors involved in bringing new technologies to market. Key topics include basic intellectual property law, economic and business concepts, technology valuation methods, market analysis, competition and innovation strategies, licensing law, commercializing university technologies, industry employer-employee IP rights, experimental use of new technologies, bankruptcy, antitrust laws, and tax effects of technology creation and transfer. Additional topics include U.S. technology export controls, business organizations and management responsibilities, and financing technology commercialization. Students should be able to conceptually structure moderately complex technology commercialization transactions.
