Talmud Seminar: Lessons from the Talmud for Modern Legal Thought.

In the fall semester of 2012, the Institute on Religion, Law and Lawyer’s Work started a seminar on Lessons from the Talmud for Modern Legal Thought.

Rabbi Tsvi Blanchard is leading a study group on this topic for both Jewish and non-Jewish faculty. Rather than focus on the definitive Jewish interpretation of Talmud provisions, the study group explores Talmud from a comparative perspective in order to glean insights that provide participants with new perspectives on modern legal doctrine and theory. The study group is open to all Fordham faculty and faculty from other law schools.

Rabbi Blanchard is the Meyer Struckmann Professor of Jewish Law at Humboldt Faculty of Law in Berlin. He is a Scholar in Residence for Jewish Law with Fordham Law School’s Institute of Religion, Law & Lawyers Work, a former philosophy professor at Washington University.
