Jan. 1996: Sworn in as a Federal District Judge for the Southern District of New York

1987: Became Chief Assistant to Robert M. Morgenthau, the District Attorney of New York County, a post held until I joined the bench.

1977 to 1987: Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York, serving as the Chief of the Organized Crime Strike Force from 1984 until 1987.

1973 to 1977: Special Attorney in the Honors Program of the United States Department of Justice in the Manhattan Strike Force against Organized Crime and Racketeering.
