Dispute Resolution Society Advances to Semifinal Round at National Competition

April 16, 2013

Having advanced past the regional rounds in March, Dispute Resolution Society members Kharis Belgrave ’14 and Cristina Rincon ’14 competed in the national round of the American Bar Association Mediation Competition in Chicago. The duo advanced to the semifinal round with the third highest score among teams from across the nation.

Belgrave and Rincon were coached by Nick Schaefer ’13 and supported by teammates Sara Goldschmidt ’14 and Kartik Anjur ’14.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the team,” said Schaefer. “To make it to the semifinals in such a large, national competition is an impressive accomplishment and is a real testament to the entire team’s hard work and dedication.”

Team members were also supported by Professors Jacqueline Nolan-Haley, Peggy Leibowitz, and Deborah Shapiro. Society Chairperson Rob Sanzillo ’13, Managing Editor Caroline Billet ’13, and Competitions Editor Julia Belagorudsky ’13 provided the team with valuable assistance throughout their preparation.

Professors Leibowitz and Shapiro congratulated the team, saying, “The ABA Mediation team continued the Fordham Law tradition by doing a tremendous job at the competitions. We are so proud of the team and all of the DRS members who supported them along the way.”
