Dispute Resolution Society Recognized for Advocacy Skills at the Willem C. Vis West International Arbitration CompetitionApril 16, 2012
Dispute Resolution Society members Sean Barry '13, William Crowe '13, Katie Gant '13, and Zachary Hudson '13 competed in the final round of 64 teams at the Willem C. Vis West International Arbitration Competition.
Crowe and Hudson were individually recognized for their outstanding oral advocacy skills. Crowe received third place for Best Oral Advocate, and Hudson received an Honorable Mention award for Best Oral Advocate.
"These four students were tremendously talented and hard working. It showed in their exceptional performance," said coach Charlotte Zubizaretta '12. "I am humbled to have coached them and proud to have been a part of this history-making year."
The Vis West competition is held each year in Vienna, Austria. Over 260 teams from around the world compete and are presented with the opportunity to argue in front of leading arbitration practitioners. This year’s competition was held at the Law Faculty of the University of Vienna and featured the newly instated China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) rules.
Team members were supported by Professors Vikki Rogers and Matthew Parrott. Vis East Coach Winston Wang '12, Society Chairperson Kaitlyn Kerrane '12, Managing Editor Amanda Broitman '12, Competitions Editor Tavish DeAtley '12, and Bench Member Lauren Boswell '13 provided the team with valuable assistance throughout their preparation. The team was also supported by many of the Society's senior members as well as several Fordham alumni.
