Learn and Network with Lawyers and Students from Around the World

 2012
Program Factsheet

Launched in 2007, the Fordham Law Summer Institute in New York City provides foreign-trained lawyers and students with an introduction to the U.S. legal system and various topics of U.S. law that are most important for lawyers in today’s global economy.  The program also includes social events and other opportunities that allow participants to develop friendships and professional networks from among the other participants. Typically, the program welcomes about 100 participants, coming from more than 20 countries from around the world.

The 2012 Summer Institute will take place from July 9 to July 27.

Topics to be covered in the 2012 Summer Institute tentatively include Antitrust Law, Bankruptcy Law, Constitutional Law, Contract Law, Corporations, Domestic Arbitration, Information Technology Law, Intellectual Property Law, International Arbitration, Introduction to the U.S. Legal System, Mergers & Acquisitions, Product Liability Law, Securities Regulation and Insider Trading, and U.S. Trial Practice.

Students may also take part in optional workshops to strengthen their legal English skills.  These include sessions on Contract Dafting and Negotiation, Memorandum Research, Legal Writing, and Litigation Documents.  Students may also attend workshops on Applying to LL.M. Programs and Preparing for the LL.M. Program – a specially designed seminar for students who will begin an LL.M. program at Fordham or elsewhere upon completion of the Summer Institute.

Thiago Barbarisi Moraes Memorial Scholarship

The Summer Institute offers one scholarship to a Brazilian lawyer or law student in memory of Thiago Barbarisi Moraes, a beloved member of the First Annual Fordham Law Summer Institute class, who died tragically in 2008.

The deadline to apply for this opportunity has passed.
